Cosenza-Catanzaro, Serie B: TV, streaming, likely lineups, prediction

by Martin

Cosenza-Catanzaro is a match of the nineteenth day of Serie B and is played on Thursday at 3 p.m.: statistics, news, likely lineups, prediction, live TV, streaming.

The highlight of Serie B’s Boxing Day, which closes the first half of the season, is undoubtedly the long-awaited derby of Calabria between Cosenza and Catanzaro, an appointment that as usual refreshes a heartfelt rivalry. Who gets there better? Certainly the Giallorossi of former Fabio Caserta, who sat on the Lupi’s bench last season – lost both derbies, both the first leg and the return – only to be removed from office in the spring.

His Catanzaro may not be what it was last year, but despite a few too many draws – no one has collected more “X’s” than the Eagles, as many as 11 – at the halfway mark it occupies a decent eighth place, on 23 points, and is in the playoff zone. There seem to be, therefore, the preconditions for taking some satisfaction this time as well, although the primary goal remains to secure salvation as soon as possible. Only three defeats have been cashed so far by the Giallorossi: the last one came last Saturday against Spezia (0-1) ending an unbeaten streak that lasted since September. Cosenza lost with the same result, pierced by a Cicconi goal in Carrara, against a direct competitor for salvation. Third defeat in a row for the Lupi, who plummeted to last place in the ranking (a position they share with Frosinone). Of course, it is a ranking “drugged” by the 4 penalty points – without those the red-blues would be out of the red zone – but the feeling is that grit alone can no longer suffice: the technical limits of Massimiliano Alvini’s team remain evident and to achieve yet another salvation will need more elements of category in January.

Caserta is expected to field a lineup similar to the one that faced Spezia, on the other hand, the Rossoblù coach Alvini will have to do without the disqualified Florenzi, who was sent off in Carrara.

The Prediction

Cosenza will try to fight back in what is one of the most important matches of the year, but the Lupi are unlikely to break the derby taboo (in B, the last victory has been missing since time immemorial) against a healthy Catanzaro with more certainties. Giallorossi slightly favored, then. And as for possible scorers, watch out for Iemmello, who scored in both the first leg and the return leg against Cosenza last season.

The probable formations of Cosenza-Catanzaro

COSENZA (3-4-2-1): Micai; Sgarbi, Dalle Mura, Caporale; Ricciardi, Mauri, Kourfalidis, Ricci; Rizzo Pinna, Mazzocchi; Strizzolo.
CATANZARO (3-5-2): Pigliacelli; Brighenti, Scognamillo, Bonini; Compagnon, Pompetti, Petriccione, Pontisso, Ceresoli; Iemmello, Biasci.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 1-2
