Reigning Italian champions Inter continue their preseason preparations. The team led by Simone Inzaghi is preparing to play its last friendly before its Serie A debut at Marassi in the always tricky away match against Alberto Gilardino’s Genoa. The challenge against Chelsea will be an important test to better understand if the Nerazzurri are ready to start the new season on the lines of what they saw in the past one or if the latest disappointing results – above all the defeat against Al Ittihad – represent a serious wake-up call.
Yeah, because the preseason on the playing level has not been exciting at all. In the five games played, the Nerazzurri had three wins, one draw and one loss, managing to show a game on par with last season’s only intermittently.
Two victories came only by the narrowest of margins (3-2 to Lugano, 2-1 to Pergolettese), and so with the exception of the bombastic win over the Spaniards of Las Palmas (3-0), the results have not been thrilling, in particular the last draw obtained only in the Cesarini zone against Pisa, a Serie B side, and even the 2-0 defeat in Monza against Al Ittihad.
Chelsea will be a testing test. New coach Enzo Maresca has a very deep roster at his disposal; Chelsea is an open building site but there is no shortage of talent. Compared to the recent past, less high-profile names have arrived, but still paid dearly: Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jørgensen, Omari Kellyman, Aarón Anselmino, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley and Marc Guiu.
