Bundesliga predictions Jan. 15: two “goal” matches and one surprise

by Sabrina

Bundesliga, Bayern Munich started the new year just as they ended the old one: goleada in sight against Hoffenheim?

This midweek round of the Bundesliga coincides with the last day of the first half of the year, but Bayern Munich has already crowned itself winter champion thanks to its success last weekend on the always very hostile pitch of Borussia Monchengladbach, beaten 1-0 thanks to a penalty by the usual Kane (15th goal in the league for the former Tottenham player).

In this way, the Bavarians kept the gap to Bayer Leverkusen, to date their main antagonist in the title fight, unchanged and extended their winning streak, which began in the last round of 2024 with a thunderous 5-1 win at Leipzig. The coach, Vincent Kompany, was pleased with the clean sheet – it was the first after seven games in which Bayern Munich had always conceded goals – but at the same time somewhat regretful about the many chances not materialized. In any case, Muller and his teammates will be able to make up for it with Hoffenheim, a team that currently gravitates to the edge of the relegation zone and has failed to win since November: the Sinsheim club began 2025 with a home defeat against Wolfsburg, which last Saturday came out on top 1-0, inflicting the second knockout in a row on Christian Ilzer’s men. A match, the one at the Allianz Arena, that should not hold any major surprises. We imagine a wide success for Bayern Munich, which can thus avenge the ugly defeat suffered last May against Hoffenheim (4-2).

The predictions on the other matches

Union Berlin can’t make it out of the crisis: the capitols have had almost only knockouts since November, and if they are not in the relegation zone, it is thanks to the points collected in the first months of the championship.

Last weekend they also lost the salvation clash with Heidenheim (2-0), and it will not be easy for them to make a full haul in the challenge with Augsburg, another struggling team coming from three defeats in a row.

It cannot be ruled out that the Bavarians, despite the bad moment, will manage to put at least a draw in their pockets. Also on the hunt for redemption is Werder Bremen, coming off a defeat-the first after three wins in a row-against Leipzig (4-2): the green-and-whites, not far from the European zone, can turn the page against dangerous Heidenheim, third-last and in the playout zone. Finally, the other match to watch out for is between Stuttgart and Leipzig, two ambitious teams that are also trying their hand at the Champions League. The break seems to have done well for the Roten Bullen, momentarily fourth on equal points with Freiburg, but the Swabians, who won at home to Augsburg last Sunday, are also healthy: we predict at least one goal on each side at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
