Bundesliga predictions April 26, 3:30 p.m.: celebrations could start this round

by Michael

The Bundesliga could be the second of the top five European leagues to crown its champion. Bayern Munich, after yet another misstep by Bayer Leverkusen, is ready to reclaim the Meisterschale: they now have an eight-point lead over the defending champions, who were held to a draw by St. Pauli last weekend. At this stage of the tournament, with only four games to go, a comeback by Xabi Alonso’s team seems unlikely, as they gave the impression of having thrown in the towel in Hamburg.

Kane and his teammates could even start celebrating this weekend. They would clinch the title if they beat Mainz and Aspirin fail to win against Augsburg. Vincent Kompany is therefore hoping for a “gift” from his Bavarian cousins, provided, of course, that his men live up to expectations against the Nullfunfer. Bayern Munich returned to winning ways last Saturday after three games, demolishing Heidenheim 4-0 and trying to forget – so to speak – their elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Inter. They are likely to do the same against Mainz, who have been in decline for a month now: Bo Henriksen’s side missed out on a win for the fifth time in a row (1-1 with Wolfsburg) and slipped to sixth place. Staying in the European places is the Biancorossi’s goal, but turning the page at the home of the league leaders – where Mainz have not won since 2016 – will be very difficult.

Predictions for the other matches

And Bayer Leverkusen? The Aspirins will do their best to keep the title race alive, even if they have to face a team in great form like Augsburg.

The Bavarians held Eintracht Frankfurt to a 0-0 draw last Sunday, have lost only one game since January, and despite being tenth, can still aim for a historic European qualification. Leverkusen are favorites, but it will be no walk in the park for the reigning champions. Victory is within reach for Borussia Dortmund, who are officially back in the race for fourth place. Thanks to a spectacular 3-2 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach, the Black and Yellows are now four points behind Leipzig and cannot afford any slip-ups against a Hoffenheim side that is almost safe.

Speaking of Gladbach, the Fohlen, currently ninth, are dreaming of a return to Europe and should come out on top at bottom-of-the-table Kiel, whose highest aspiration is to avoid direct relegation by securing a place in the play-offs with the third-placed team in the Zweite Liga. However, victory is not a foregone conclusion for Gerardo Seoane’s side: the Hanseatic team believe they can survive and have just proved it by drawing away at Leipzig. Finally, Freiburg should return with at least a point from their trip to Wolfsburg against a team now out of the race for Europe: greater motivation will make the difference in a game that should see at least one goal per side.
