Brighton-Tottenham is a match on the 19th day of the Premier League and is played Thursday at 8:30pm: TV, lineups, predictions.
Brighton’s season for the moment remains anonymous and has little to do with last season, when Roberto De Zerbi’s Seagulls had suddenly become one of the Premier League’s most interesting teams. The Europa League has taken away energy and points: at the halfway mark the club from England’s south coast is ninth, far behind the top four.
It must be said that this is, in any case, a good result for a team that until a few years ago had as its only goal to maintain the category. And that only this season has “discovered” what it means to deal with the double weekly commitment, having never gained qualification for a European cup before last May. Another problem De Zerbi is dealing with is that of injuries. Brighton’s infirmary is struggling to empty and the Italian coach has rarely been able to count on the entire squad at his disposal. Hence the excessively up-and-down path: seven wins, six draws and five defeats for Dunk and his teammates, who have never recorded a clean sheet in the league. Among the top 10, no one has conceded more goals than them (31).
The Spurs are back on a roll
In the league, the Seagulls have not won for three days and last Friday in the pre-Christmas round they had to settle for a point in the match with Crystal Palace (1-1).
After two away matches in a row we return to the Amex Stadium, where Tottenham, which overcame its crisis period, has strung together three consecutive victories. The last one Spurs got against a good Everton, folded 2-1 in London. What made the difference was the Londoners’ aggressive start, leading by two goals after the first 20 minutes, thanks to goals by Richarlison and Son. The success over the Toffees allowed Ange Postecoglou’s team to leapfrog City (who, however, have one match less) to fourth place.
The Prediction
Last season, Tottenham managed, despite a disappointing year, to prevail both in the first leg and in the return leg over the Seagulls, who in the last five previous fixtures against Spurs have prevailed on only one occasion. De Zerbi’s team does not shine but can still put up a prolific match against another opponent that practices a very offensive type of soccer: there will most likely be at least three goals in total.
