Bournemouth v Liverpool, Premier League: odds, predictions

by Martin

Bournemouth-Liverpool is a match for the twenty-seventh day of the Premier League and is played on Saturday at 13:30: tv, formations, predictions

Not even a month ago we were talking about a desperate comeback in reference to the difficult situation Liverpool were in, finding themselves in mid-table following a poor start to 2023. Since mid-February, however, the Reds – at least as far as the Premier League is concerned – have been running again. And now they are back within touching distance of fourth place.

Four victories have come in the last five days of the season, interspersed with a white-net draw with Crystal Palace and a Champions League debacle against Real Madrid, that disastrous 2-5 win which, however, has had little effect on the morale of Salah and his team-mates. Especially in light of what happened last Sunday. Yes, because not even in their wildest dreams could Liverpool fans have imagined demolishing their bitter rivals Manchester United with a humiliating 7-0. Anfield Road was transformed into a place of celebration, where the only ones not cheering were the hapless Red Devils themselves, who suffered one of the worst defeats in their history. Everyone was on the scoresheet. From the usual Salah, who became Liverpool’s top scorer in the Premier League, to new signings Gakpo and Darwin Nunez. A victory that erases, in part, the numerous bitterness Jurgen Klopp’s side have had to deal with this season, which seemed to have taken a turn for the worse in January.

Liverpool back within touching distance of fourth place

The league table now sees Liverpool in fifth place, just three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham who, however, have one game more than the Reds. And if we take into account the fact that Liverpool’s only commitment between now and June is likely to be in the league – Liverpool are unlikely to retake Real Madrid in a few days – Klopp and his men become favourites in the race for a place in the next Champions League.

Liverpool are now dreaming of a third win in a row at home to Bournemouth, who are coming off two defeats against the top of the table, Manchester City and Arsenal, and were last in the table on Saturday on equal points with Southampton. The Cherries, however, came close to stopping the Gunners’ run, who only got the better of them in the last minute of stoppage time (2-3) in the Emirates Stadium match.

The Prediction

The seven goals they scored against Manchester United is clear evidence that Liverpool have regained their lost confidence. And now that the new players are starting to gel, Klopp can smile again after the dark period. All that remains is to improve the away performance, where the vice European champions have suffered six defeats. Against Bournemouth the three points should be there, but it is not out of the question that the hosts will score at least one goal, as they also managed it against City and Arsenal.

Bournemouth-Liverpool’s likely line-up

  • BOURNEMOUTH (5-4-1): Neto; Smith, Mepham, Senesi, Stephens, Zemura; Ouattara, Billing, Rothwell, Traoré; Solanke.
  • LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konaté, van Dijk, Robertson; Elliott, Fabinho, Henderson; Salah, Gakpo, Darwin Nunez.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 1-3
