Sinner, the confirmation everyone has been waiting for has arrived via social media: fans are reeling, now that’s great news.
The biggest fear was that this was anything but a passing thing. But, thankfully, the worst seems to be behind us. Jannik Sinner is officially cured of the tonsillitis that forced him to wave the white flag at the gates of the Olympics, so much so that he has already landed in Canada and is ready to return to the field after a few weeks off.
Running out of the Open-which this year will be played in Montreal, which along with Toronto hosts the Atp and Wta champions in alternating years-would have created quite a few problems, so it is fortunate that the Italian has recovered in time for the first event in August. He won his first Masters 1000 there last year, so he defends a rather substantial and important haul. Had his health not improved, his ranking would inevitably have suffered.
None of that, fortunately, happened. On the contrary, the moment the world number 1 announced his departure for the North American country, fans breathed a sigh of relief. Precisely because, precisely, they had feared the worst as they approached the cement bracket that, hopefully, could bring great satisfaction to the red baron.
Sinner, this is it: it’s already time for the countdown
Sinner arrived in Montreal on Tuesday evening, and his departure had actually been spoiled by a photo posted by Darren Cahill. Jannik’s coach had posted an unmistakable photo at the airport, and that alone had persuaded supporters of the Blue’s presence in Canada.
Only in the momentwhen the officiality came, however, they could really rejoice. “Nice to start hitting again,” Sinner wrote on social media, “Can’t wait to get going again from here. A forced stop, his, that did not please either the tennis player or the audience, who remained dry from the end of Wimbledon to date. Fortunately, as we said before, the worst is now behind him.
The concrete awaits him and we will know shortly what opponents he will encounter on his way across the Ocean. And whether he will be able, indeed, to defend the points he won last year in those latitudes. In short, the wait is over and everything, at last, is about to fall back into place.
