Betting, another case rocks England: investigation opened into what could be over 375 rule violations

We know very well that professionals are not allowed to do one thing during their careers: bet on sporting events. A basic rule that applies to everyone. Although many often fall into the temptation to do so.

Another case is causing controversy in England – as reported by goal.com – and concerns Nottingham Forest defender Harry Toffolo who was allegedly charged by the Football Association for 375 alleged violations of its betting rules. In short, a very high number that leaves no room for interpretation. The defender will have until next 19 July to try to defend himself and allegedly made these violations between January 2014 and March 2017.

During that time Toffolo was signed by former club Norwich City, but played on loan at Swindon, Rotherham and Scunthorpe. Last season, in the English top league, he made a total of 19 appearances. And the club had taken him from Huddersfield Town last summer.

These cases are not new in England, as we have also told you in these columns about what happened to Brentford’s Ivan Toney who, last May, picked up an eight-month disqualification for admitting 232 violations between 2017 and 2021.

In December 2020 it was the turn of English defender Kieran Trippier, former Atletico Madrid and also England national team player: he got off with a total disqualification of 10 days. He got off with a total of 10 days. That was definitely good for what could perhaps have been expected. Now then, this new case that does not coincide with the rules to be respected. The feeling is that we could be heading for another disqualification to also try to limit what are these violations. We will see what happens with one other thing certain: should the defender be found guilty by the FA, a disqualification will come before the start of the new season.
