Berrettini, what you don’t do for love: special “sale” in Miami

by Mark

Berrettini, the cameras caught them in the act: it really is true that for love one is willing to do anything.

As usual, as always happens in such cases, the people of the web have evenly sided into two different factions. On the one hand, there are those who believe that Matteo Berrettini’s performance was admirable and harbinger of good things; on the other hand, there are those who think that participating in the Miami Masters 1000 was not a good idea.

After an excellent week at the Phoenix Challenger, the Roman was eliminated in the first round by the rediscovered Andy Murray. Surprisingly, we would say, after a first set in which the Italian had dominated and played particularly well. And had it not been for the fainting spell he had in the second partial, when Matteo seemed on the verge of fainting while serving, perhaps we would be here telling a completely different story. But we don’t like to speak in the conditional tense, so let’s take reality for what it is. And there is no question, wanting to analyze it objectively, that Berrettini has been sending some great signals, from the Hard Rock Stadium center court.

We are still a long way from the performances of his top ten days, but that does not mean that he cannot aspire to a return to the upper echelons of the rankings. The more time he spends on the court, the higher the chances of seeing him back where he deserves to be: among the greats, at their own level.

Berrettini, caught on cam: the image says it all

A comeback in style that, while punctuated by this minor physical setback, did not disappoint the expectations of his fans. The real ones, that is.

Who certainly was not disappointed is the girl who, during the match with Murray, was at one point caught on camera. She was in the stands with her boyfriend and holding up a banner with a hilarious message written on it, clearly addressed to Matteo, which read, “Berrettini, I’ll trade my boyfriend for your racket.”

“Please don’t!” echoed the one held up by the boyfriend in question, startled at the thought that his beloved might actually trade him for a gagdet of his darling. The image, of course, went around the web and amused half the world. Confirming, moreover, what poets and writers, singers and artists of all kinds, have been preaching for ever and ever. That for love, that is, one is willing to do anything. Including little follies like the one theorized, precisely, by the girl in question.
