Berrettini had already been caught with his new “flame” in Monte Carlo: here’s who by.
The people on social media did not welcome the news in the best way. They are not thrilled, let’s put it this way, that Matteo Berrettini, with so many pros out there, chose him. Only a slice of fans think, however, that the Roman could not have made a better choice. If only because forgiveness, at least so they say, is denied to no one.
And yet, it continues to be talked about as a risky, even counterproductive move. As if the mistake Umberto Ferrara made a few months ago had suddenly erased everything good, for better or worse, this professional has done in the world of sports. The world number 1, Jannik Sinner, had chosen him because he was one of the best. But suddenly, in the collective imagination, such is no longer the case.
This is because, as you will undoubtedly recall, from the reconstruction of the Clostebol affair, it would seem that it was the athletic trainer who started the chain of “carelessness” that would culminate, then, in the contamination of the South Tyrolean champion. A mistake that Ferrara, as well as physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi, paid dearly for: being removed, that is, from the team of the Italian, who at that point preferred to shuffle the cards and hire someone else for his team.
For Berrettini and Ferrara comes the blessing of Sinner
The fact that Berrettini may have decided–the news is yet to be confirmed–to open his team’s doors wide just to Ferrara, we said, has not been welcomed by the tennis people.
Who, on the other hand, gave his blessing to this marriage is Sinner himself, who in the past few days, in the midst of the Nitto Atp Finals, wished to express his opinion about this news. Unexpected, perhaps, but not entirely unreasonable. “I saw Umberto Ferrara and Matteo Berrettini on the last day in Monte Carlo, before we left,” Jannik first pointed out, stressing that he was already aware of it. It was no surprise to him, in short, that the two had become close.
“The only thing I can say,” he added, ”is that Umberto is a very good trainer and I am sure he will do a great job together with Matteo. Sinner does not forget, in short, what Ferrara gave him, net of the mistake he made and for which, perhaps, Jannik has not yet stopped paying.
