Berrettini dreaming, total reversal: what a jump in rankings

by Mark

Dream Berrettini: second final in season in this case in Stuttgart allows the Italian athlete to resoundingly rise up the rankings. And just around the corner is Wimbledon.

Doing the due diligence, because the whole year has been spent between good and less good moments, Matteo Berrettini seems to be truly reborn. After his victory in Marrakech, the Italian tennis player won another final, that of the Stuttgart tournament – already won twice – and is preparing in the best possible way to experience Wimbledon.

In 2021, in England, on a magical Sunday for Italy given that the evening after Roberto Mancini’s Azzurri had managed the feat of beating the hosts and winning the European Championship, Matteo was in the final, in front of the eyes of President Mattarella, and in front of an entire country in celebration that rightly pushed him. Gone wrong, Djokovic still laid down the law, over there, however, they have not lost their admiration for Berrettini who is highly anticipated for the next Slam of the season. The former World No. 6 had slipped past 100th place in the ATP rankings after continuous injuries. But now he has made an incredible leap.

Berrettini dream, resounding overtake

He is now close to position 70. An incredible jump for Matteo, who unfortunately for the continuous physical problems he had also had to skip the tournament in Rome: it was he himself who announced it in a press conference right there at the Foro Italico, trying to hold back an obvious emotion that almost burst into some tears. Now, however, the worst is behind him, and he is about to experience Wimbledon in a very different way than he has up to now: with a smile and a desire to go all the way. Or at least trying to.

Italian fans look forward to seeing him on the field in the best possible condition. Not least because he, too, as well as Sinner, has shown that he can be in the highest parts of the ATP rankings. Together they would also form a dream pair, perhaps in a doubles match that has never been staged. One physically strong, Matteo, the other agile, fast, like Jannik. Italy has the best in front.
