ASTON VILLA – BRENTFORD | Sunday 3pm
The exoneration was already in the air and the London debacle at home to Fulham (3-0) in the last midweek round only accelerated it. Steven Gerrard has not been the coach of Aston Villa for a few days now. The former Liverpool captain leaves the bench of the Birmingham club after a nightmarish start of the championship – barely two wins in eleven days – and with the Villans in seventeenth place, practically in the relegation zone. A performance not at all in line with what were the initial expectations. Pending the appointment of a new coach, the management announced that Aaron Danks will lead the team in the home match against Brentford.
The Bees are living a diametrically opposite moment, and despite the inferior quality of the team they are repeating the excellent championship of last year, when as newly promoted they managed to reach a quiet salvation. The team coached by Thomas Frank is tenth and this week stopped Chelsea at 0-0.
The Prediction
It remains to be seen whether Aston Villa will have a reaction after Gerrard’s now inevitable exoneration. They could still avoid defeat in a challenge in which surprising Brentford are also likely to find the way to goal.
The likely line-ups for Aston Villa-Brentford
- ASTON VILLA (4-3-1-2): Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Young; McGinn, Dendoncker, Ramsey; Buendia; Watkins, Ings.
