Alcaraz did it again: another mauling for Sinner after Wimbledon

by Thorsten

Alcaraz did it again, truly magical moment for the Spanish tennis player capable of triumphing at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

After Roland Garros, Wimbledon as well. In the history of tennis, there are not many tennis players capable of winning on the red of Paris and, only a month later, also triumphing on the lawns of the All England Club. Carlos Alcaraz, last Sunday, officially joined this select club, overwhelming Novak Djokovic in three sets and putting his fourth career Slam, the second in a row at the Championships, in the bag.

A very impressive number, considering that the Murcia native just turned 21. Only the greatest have succeeded in such a feat: in projection, should he maintain these rhythms, Alcaraz is destined to break the records of the Big Three (Federer, Nadal and Djokovic), especially if he manages to have an equally long career. The Iberian’s triumph at Wimbledon, in any case, has inevitably rekindled comparisons with our own Jannik Sinner, who now faces a gap of as many as 3 Slams to match what is likely to be his generational rival.

The Italian, after a fifth-set defeat in the Roland Garros semifinal against the Spaniard, failed to take revenge in London, being eliminated in the quarters by Russian Daniil Medvedev. And there are already those who have questioned his first position in the Atp rankings, which he has occupied for six weeks now, considering him still (at least) one step below Alcaraz.

Alcaraz has done it again, the Spaniard favored for the gold medal

The next test will be the Paris Olympics, which this time will be played on clay. The anticipation is great as far as Italian tennis is concerned, which is experiencing a true golden age.

Needless to hide that expectations are gigantic on Sinner, but even in women’s singles Jasmine Paolini, after finals played at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, could have her say. Not to mention the doubles, where Italy presents itself with two well-established pairs in both men’s and women’s. On one side Bolelli and Vavassori and on the other side Paolini and Errani. The spotlight, however, is almost entirely on Sinner, who in any case will not start favored in the French capital. Ahead of him, in the Sisal bookmakers’ odds, is the “usual” Alcaraz. A possible success of the Murcian is quoted at 3.00, the victory of the Italian, on the other hand, is quoted at four times the stake.
