Torino-Fiorentina prediction: the reaction comes, but there’s too much uncertainty at the back

by Elena

Torino’s season and Marco Baroni’s adventure on the Granata bench couldn’t have started any worse: at San Siro last Monday, Inter ran riot, taking advantage of a leaky defense that looked even more fragile when it came to building from the back.
It was a real disaster for Torino, who will first need to find some balance if they want to play a certain type of game and avoid another heavy defeat like this one. The harsh 5-0 defeat at the Meazza has further eroded the already low confidence of the fans in the club’s project, which, thanks to a decent transfer campaign, seemed to have gained some momentum this time around.
It is now up to Baroni to make the necessary adjustments, starting with the match against Fiorentina, which will mark the Granata’s debut in front of their home crowd in Serie A 2025-26.

During the week, the Viola managed to complicate their lives in the return leg of the Conference League play-off against the modest Ukrainian side Polissya, who they had beaten 3-0 in the first leg: Stefano Pioli’s team, packed with second-string players, went two goals down in the first twenty minutes and only turned the situation around in the second half after the starters came on (coming back from 0-2 to 3-2).
Fiorentina are still finding their feet, considering their lackluster performance in Cagliari, with the Sardinians catching up with the Gigliati in injury time (1-1) at the end of a match in which the Rossoblù had the best chances.

No revolutions at Toro: Baroni is set to confirm the 4-3-3 formation with the attacking trio of Ngonge, Simeone, and Vlasic. The change is in midfield, where newcomer Asllani has the edge over Ilkhan: he will be the playmaker between Casadei and Gineitis. Behind them, Masina and Maripan are vying for the spot.

The prediction

Torino are looking to redeem themselves after their poor performance against Inter, and against a Viola side that is still finding its feet, they are likely to succeed. We expect at least one goal per side, given the defensive problems of both teams. A draw, which has occurred three times in the last five meetings, cannot be ruled out.
