Serie B predictions for March 30: keep an eye on the “X” in these matches

by Lea

In a Serie B season in which, for the first time in several seasons, the playoffs appear to be at serious risk – if at the end of the regular season the gap between third and fourth place is greater than 14 points, the top three will be promoted directly, without playing in the playoffs – there are those who are desperately trying to finish at least in the top eight and fight for their chances in the postseason.

Palermo, for example, would currently be out. This would be a sensational exclusion, given the ambitions of the Rosanero since they were bought two years ago by the same owners as Manchester City. Despite some high-profile signings – in January, the league’s top scorer, Finland’s Pohjanpalo, arrived from Venezia – Alessio Dionisi’s team is struggling to find its form.

With consecutive victories against Cosenza and Brescia, Palermo had given the impression of having turned a corner, but in the last two games, they have returned to disappointing form, picking up just one point against Sampdoria and Cremonese (the comeback suffered in the match against the Grigiorossi was incredible, as they managed to turn the game around in the last 20 minutes and win 3-2 at the Barbera). Dionisi, confirmed despite the Rosanero slipping to ninth place, has a lot at stake in the match against Salernitana at the Arechi. The Granata are another disappointment, as evidenced by their current second-to-last place in the standings. However, salvation is still possible, and the Campani have shown that they are more alive than ever thanks to the four points they earned against Modena (1-0) and Bari (0-0). Salvation will inevitably come from their home games, where Salernitana has earned the bulk of their points (22 out of 30). We therefore expect a more hard-fought match than expected: for a Palermo in such difficulty, it will not be easy to take all three points.

Predictions for other matches

Bari, currently eighth and one point ahead of the Sicilians, are also chasing important points in the playoff race. In 2025, the Galletti have only lost to Juve Stabia but have to contend with a dangerous tendency to draw: the Biancorossi have shared the spoils 16 times and are the team with the most draws alongside Catanzaro.

Carrara could be heading for their fourth consecutive draw after those against Sampdoria, Sassuolo, and Salernitana against an opponent who is trying to secure safety at home. Carrarese, currently out of the relegation zone but only one point above the fifth-last team, is seventh in terms of home performance. However, the most interesting match will be at the Manuzzi, where Cesena and Juve Stabia, seventh and sixth in the table respectively, will battle it out. Both have exceeded expectations, considering that we are talking about two newly promoted teams: the playoffs would be a fitting reward for both the Romagna and Campania sides. Cesena are unbeaten at home since December and will most likely avoid defeat, but after two clean sheets in a row at home, they could concede at least one goal this time.
