Georgia-Armenia prediction: a return match with no surprises

by Mark

Georgia’s qualification for League B of the Nations League is a done deal. Yes, Thursday evening’s 3-0 win made it plain sailing for Sagnol’s team, the French coach who is the architect of this European wild card.

It was all plain sailing for Mikautadze – who scored again – and his teammates. Armenia, who didn’t really understand anything on Thursday evening, were given a real thrashing. Statistics show that it was not really a match: only two shots on target for the Armenians, and very weak ones at that, with an Expected Goals rating of 0.29, meaning that the team playing in front of its home crowd practically never took to the field and never managed to get into the game. Georgia took advantage of this, skillfully opening and closing the game in the first half, and then skillfully closing the deal in the second half. Yes, perhaps a 2-0 score would have left Armenia with some chance, or perhaps it would have hinted at a possible comeback, but the final 3-0 score leaves no room for comment.

That said, as we told you a few days ago, the game has almost always seen both teams score. That wasn’t the case on Thursday, but we believe this is just the exception that proves the rule.

The prediction

Once again, we expect at least three goals in total, but unlike the other day, Armenia should manage to score at least one goal in 90 minutes. However, as we have seen and understood, there can be no doubt about the final victory, despite Kvaratskhelia’s absence in this return match.
