As every year, it is up to the reigning champions to kick off the Bundesliga season, and Bayern Munich will face Leipzig at the Allianz Arena on Friday in the second official match of the season for Vincent Kompany’s men. On Saturday, the Bavarians defeated Stuttgart, the national cup holders, 2-1 in the German Super Cup. In addition to the usual relentless Kane, who scored the goal that broke the deadlock, one of the stars of the match was new signing Luis Diaz, who arrived from Liverpool in the summer transfer window for around €70 million.
Needless to say, they are still the favorites: since the 2012-13 season, Bayern Munich has lifted the Meisterschale twelve times, a long streak interrupted only by Bayer Leverkusen’s triumph in the 2023-24 edition. Leipzig, on the other hand, are starting afresh after a tumultuous season that ended in seventh place and out of everything: the Roten Bullen will not be playing in any European competition for the first time in several years of regular participation.
A new era has begun in Leipzig
The new coach is Ole Werner, who left Werder Bremen at the end of a very successful four-year spell: he takes over from Marco Rose, who was sacked last spring following a series of disappointing results. Leipzig made their debut in the German Cup a week ago: they suffered greatly against lower-league opponents Sandhausen, who forced Werner’s team to come back from two goals down and kept them in the game until ten minutes from the end. Banzuzi and Xavi Simons saved the day for Werner (2-4), avoiding an embarrassing defeat.
After Sesko’s painful departure for Man United, the Roten Bullen coach is relying on Openda in attack, while at Bayern Munich, with Musiala absent, Olise will be supporting Kane.

The prediction
In the last 17 previous matches, Leipzig has only won twice against Bayern Munich: the trend is unlikely to change in a match that, as usual, should produce several goals. We predict more than two goals in total and at least one for each side: after all, the Roten Bullen defense was breached twice by a modest team a week ago.
