On the night in Athens – the stadium is that of Olympiacos – Manchester City goes in the hunt for another trophy, the European Super Cup, in a match the English club has the honor of playing for the first time in its history.
Holders of the Champions League, in the Greek capital Guardiola’s Citizens will face Sevilla, which lifted its Europa League week last May by beating Roma on penalties in the Budapest final. The two teams are coming off mixed results: City scrambled 3-0 against Burnley coached by its former captain Kompany; the Andalusians, on the other hand, did not start the season well, losing at home 2-1 to Valencia. An advance in the third round of the Conference League, the return match between Flora Tallinn and Farul Constanta, is also being played. The Romanians had already mortgaged passage to the round a week ago, beating the Estonians on the Black Sea with a comfortable 3-0 victory.
On Baltic soil, the reigning Romanian champions could prioritize the upcoming league match with Rapid Bucharest by making a full-bodied turnover: it cannot be ruled out that Flora could score at least one goal in a prolific match. A number of Copa do Brasil matches are staged in the night: eyes on the Paulista derby between São Paulo and Corinthians, with the hosts starting as slight favorites.
