Liverpool-Tolosa is a match from the third day of the Europa League group stage and is played Thursday at 9 p.m.: TV, lineups, predictions.
Liverpool encountered no significant obstacles in its Europa League adventure: Jurgen Klopp’s Reds, despite taking the field with numerous second-liners, had no problem imposing themselves on the Austrians of Lask Linz, beaten 3-1 in the opener, and the Belgians of Union Saint-Gilloise, bent 2-0 three weeks ago at Anfield.
Direct qualification to the round of 16, predictably, at this rate will be just a formality. And the German coach’s goal is just that, so that he can save as much energy as possible and devote himself exclusively to the league, where there is to conquer at least the fourth place to return to the Champions League. On the third day, Liverpool hosts French side Toulouse, who qualified thanks to their triumph in the French Cup last season. Salah and his teammates arrive to the appointment invigorated by the victory in the always very heartfelt Merseyside derby with Everton (2-0): protagonist, needless to say, the Egyptian striker who in the summer remained in England despite the bewitching Saudi sirens. Third consecutive useful result for the Reds, who thus keep pace with the top three, Tottenham, Manchester City and Arsenal.
It will inevitably be a special night for Toulouse, which so far has shown it has what it takes to aspire to second place.
Carles Martinez’s team has four points, three more than Union Saint-Gilloise, a more credible threat for second place. With the Belgians, last September, it had ended 1-1, while a goal from Suazo was enough to file away Lask, increasingly the tail end of the table. To score points in the two matches with Liverpool is an almost impossible feat: in fact, the Whites will postpone any kind of talk to the last two days. In Ligue 1, meanwhile, Toulouse drew against Brest and Reims (1-1), settling in mid-table.
The prediction
Liverpool faces what is probably the best-equipped opponent in this round and who in Ligue 1 avoided defeat to both Psg and Marseille. The Reds, however, are in a hurry to close games for first place and qualification, which is why we don’t have much trouble imagining a success for them. And a round one, too, with at least a 2-goal difference.
