Europa League, the predictions of October 3 at 9 p.m.

by Mike

Europa League, Roma are engaged in Sweden but the challenge between Porto and Manchester United is also on the agenda in the second day.

Stopped by a mangy and never tame Bilbao at the Stadio Olimpico in their debut match (1-1), Ivan Juric’s Roma in the second day of the Europa League championship phase will try to bring home the first three points. This time the Giallorossi will play away: Elfsborg awaits them in Sweden, a commitment on paper that is far from prohibitive even if the Gialloneri are a team not to be underestimated, especially when they play at home. A week ago, in fact, they put the higher-ranked Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in trouble, who came out on top 3-2 in front of their home crowd.

In short, a potential banana peel for a Roma side that comes from a surprisingly hard-fought match against Venezia in the league, remounted (2-1) only in the last half hour: the Capitolini are favored but on Swedish soil they might not be able to keep their goal inviolate.

Athletic Bilbao, on the other hand, hosts AZ Alkmaar at San Mames: Ernesto Valverde’s men on Sunday suffered a bit from the double weekly commitment by drawing 1-1 with Sevilla in the La Liga match, but they usually concede little in their stadium and should get their first success in a match that could give a lot of emotions, also in light of the often unprejudiced attitude of the Dutch.

One of the most interesting matches of the second day, on the other hand, is between Porto and Manchester United: the Red Devils are already in crisis, coach ten Hag is confirmed for now but in case of defeat in Portugal – it would be the second in a row after the humiliating 3-0 suffered on Sunday against Tottenham at Old Trafford – his position would become even more precarious. Therefore, we expect a reaction from United but going for a result at the Do Dragao is never easy, if we also consider that Porto in the opener lost by surprise in Norway against Bodo/Glimt: both should score.

The predictions on the other matches

Another match that could provide several insights is the one at Ibrox between Rangers and Lyon: the transalpines have more quality but the Scots at home, with the support of the crowd, transform and start slightly favored.

Bodo/Glimt, after their feat with Porto on the first day, have a good chance of avoiding defeat in Belgium against Union Saint-Gilloise in a match that should guarantee at least three goals overall. The same goes for the match between the Greeks of PAOK and the Romanians of FCSB: again we assume an eventful challenge. Finally, the matches between Besiktas and Eintracht Frankfurt and between Twente and Fenerbahçe are expected to be balanced, two likely matches with at least one goal on each side.
