Young Boys-Lipsia is a match valid for the first day of the group stage of the Champions League and is played on Tuesday at 6:45 pm: tv, formations, predictions.
In Group G the first two places seem to be already “booked.” One by defending champions Manchester City, the other by Leipzig, now an almost permanent presence in the Champions League knockout stage. Trying to overturn the odds will be the ever-hostile Red Star and the Swiss Young Boys, who landed in the group stage from the chaotic playoffs: victory in the play-off with Maccabi Haifa was decisive.
As for the Germans, this year they had to deal with the usual excellent disposals (Nkunku, Szboszlai, Gvardiol) but the squad at Marco Rose’s disposal remains competitive in any case, especially if the goal is to continue to make top championships in the Bundesliga. Thick elements such as Xavi Simons, Openda and Slovenian starlet Sesko allow the former Borussia Dortmund coach to keep the bar high. And so far, no one among Roten Bullen fans is regretting the recent past: Leipzig has already won a title, beating Bayern Munich (0-3) last August in the match that awarded the German Super Cup, and in the league they are coming off three wins in a row, in which they have scored 11 goals in total and not conceded a single one.
Back to Young Boys
The only misstep remains the 3-2 loss to Bayer Leverkusen on the first day of the championship. We speak, in short, of a team in great confidence.
The Young Boys have played five matches in the Swiss Super League: they are currently second behind Zurich, which, however, has played one more match than the Yellowfin. The Bernese are returning to the group stage after two years, when they happened to be in the same grouping as Atalanta. Engaged already since late July, Raphael Wicky’s men have yet to lose a game: in their last match, valid for the national cup, they won 1-0 over Neuchatel Xamax. The Swiss coach has everyone at his disposal; the same cannot be said for Rose, who has to give up two important pawns such as Dani Olmo and Orban.
The prediction
The difference between the two teams seems stark. Young Boys is in a good moment but the same can be said of Leipzig, which besides being at least two spans above the Helvetians is off to a great start. The game in Bern should therefore offer no surprises: a guest win and more than two goals overall.
