Slavia Prague-Royale Union SG is a match valid for the first leg of the third preliminary round of the Champions League and is played on Wednesday at 7 pm: lineups, prediction, TV and streaming.
Slavia Prague’s start in the league has been positive. Play has been resumed in the Czech Republic since the end of July, and Jindrich Trpisovsky’s men have collected a draw and two victories, without conceding a single goal. As was the case last year, however, there are those who have done better: we refer to the cousins of Sparta Prague, still with full points (three wins out of three). Thus, a close duel seems to be looming, as in last season, in which Slavia had to surrender for the second year in a row to their city rivals.
The second place behind Sparta, however, allowed the red and white to avoid the first two preliminary rounds of the Champions League and start directly from the third. Somewhat like their next opponents Union Saint-Gilloise, with whom they will compete for a place in the play-offs.
The Brussels-based team last season also got mocked at the final rush by the more experienced Club Brugge, seeing a title that seemed already in the bag slip away in the playoffs. No longer on the bench is former Genoa coach Alexander Blessin but Sebastien Pocognoli, ready to start a new cycle. His adventure at the helm of the Yellowoblù began with a trophy, the Belgian Super Cup, won precisely against Brugge. Union, moreover, is still unbeaten in the league, where it has collected a win (3-1 at Beerschot) and a draw (0-0 with newly promoted Dender). Pocognoli in Prague will be without the injured Burgess and Sykes, but Slavia will also be weighed down by the absence of last seasons’ top scorer, Jurecka, who is on the outs with the club over some contractual differences.
