Sevilla vs Las Palmas prediction, heavy absence: they have their backs against the wall

by Lea

Las Palmas has sunk to the bottom of the table after three consecutive defeats against Athletic Bilbao, Valencia, and Rayo Vallecano, and now their hopes of continuing to play in the top flight seem to be fading fast. With three games to go, the Canary Islands club is second from bottom, three points behind 17th-placed Alavés. The gap can still be closed with nine points up for grabs between now and the end of the month, but from this point on, every game is a must-win for a team that has had the misfortune of stalling at the crucial stage of the season.

Diego Martinez’s men face three crucial matches: the first is against Sevilla, in which the Gialloblù coach will once again have to do without striker Fabio Silva, Las Palmas’ current top scorer with 10 goals. The Andalusians have not tasted the joy of three points since last March – in the last two months they have collected a measly two draws amid many defeats – but unlike Las Palmas, they are out of the relegation zone, four points clear. However, relaxing would be detrimental for Joaquin Caparros’ team, which is light years away from the glories of a couple of years ago – when they won their last Europa League in 2023 – and has been forced to fight against relegation for the last couple of seasons. Sevilla are also coming off an absurd defeat at Celta Vigo (3-2), which came despite their numerical superiority throughout the second half. It’s a tough time for Gudelj and his teammates, who will also have to do without Sow and Romero against Las Palmas.

The prediction

It’s hard to trust Sevilla after their recent performances, but Caparros’ men have the opportunity to secure their survival in front of their home crowd against a Las Palmas side in freefall and without their best player. We slightly favor the red and whites in a match that should see both sides score: a draw is certainly not enough for the visitors.
