Serie B match predictions for Wednesday, Aug. 28

by Thorsten

Serie B, three matches bring the curtain down on the first midweek round: newly promoted Cesena at the Catanzaro exam.

Three matches close the schedule of the first midweek round of Serie B, and the most interesting one is played at the “Manuzzi” between Michele Mignani’s newly promoted Cesena and Fabio Caserta’s Catanzaro. The Romagnoli, after dominating their own round of Serie C last year, are off to a good start despite a new coach sitting on the bench.

Two victories in the Coppa Italia – even beating a team playing in the top division, Verona – and a success on their league debut over another newly promoted team, Carrarese. At the weekend, however, came the first defeat (2-1) against fellow countrymen Sassuolo: a frankly undeserved defeat, since Cesena built numerous goal chances (as many as 23), many more than the more highly-rated neroverdi. Two draws in a row instead for Catanzaro, between Sassuolo (1-1) and Juve Stabia (0-0). The Giallorossi are still indecipherable but it was predictable when we consider that compared to last season they have changed so much, starting with the coach. Cesena could therefore take advantage of the fact that Catanzaro is still not brilliant to snatch at least a point in a match with at least one goal on each side.

The predictions on the other matches

Massimiliano Alvini’s Cosenza is left with a bitter taste in its mouth: the Lupi had managed to come back 2 goals against Mantova on Sunday, but in full recovery they cashed in the 3-2 goal, suffering their first knockout.

In any case, the Rossoblù after the first two games have the best xG index in Serie B and should also create headaches for Luca D’Angelo’s Spezia in a match that promises to be eventful, as were the Ligurians’ two outings (2-2 with Pisa and 2-1 with Frosinone). Also intriguing is the challenge between neo-promoters, Juve Stabia-Mantova, two teams that have no intention of distorting themselves from a year ago: we predict balance and at least one goal on each side.
