Roma-Verona prediction: the Champions League dream continues

by Martin

Two draws against Juventus and Lazio have slowed Roma’s race for the Champions League. Of course, considering that the season started in the worst possible way, the fact that the Giallorossi are still thinking about this possible achievement with just a few games to go is already something important.

Claudio Ranieri deserves credit, no doubt about it. But Lazio’s exit from the Europa League at the hands of Bodo has taken away any chance for Italian teams to take fifth place in Europe’s top competition next season. No chance. At this point, it is very difficult to imagine Roma finishing in the top four. Better to focus on the Europa League, which is still within reach given the standings. Roma are not in control of their own destiny, given their seventh place, and they also have to watch their backs with Fiorentina closing in. Beating Verona, therefore, becomes absolutely crucial.

Zanetti’s team has 32 points in the standings and is well clear of the relegation zone at the moment. The Venetians are calm and well aware that they have little chance at this point against a team that has achieved 16 useful results in a row over the course of the year. A Roma victory seems a foregone conclusion.

Odds comparison

Roma’s victory is priced at 1.37 on Goldbet and Lottomatica and 1.38 on Snai.

The prediction

Roma will have little trouble securing a victory that would keep their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League alive. It will be a tough task, however. In a match that is likely to see at least three goals (Verona could also find the net), a Giallorossi victory is a foregone conclusion.

Probable line-ups for Roma v Verona

ROMA (3-4-2-1): Svilar; Mancini, Hummels, Ndicka; Saelemaekers, Kone, Paredes, Angelino; Soule, Pellegrini; Dovbyk.
VERONA (3-5-2): Montipò; Ghilardi, Coppola, Valentini; Tchatchoua, Duda, Dawidowicz, Bernede, Bradaric; Kastanos, Mosquera.
