In the glorious history of Real Madrid, studded with every trophy imaginable, there is still room for new records. The Blancos, for example, despite having won 15 Champions Leagues, have never achieved the so-called classic “triplete”, that is winning the Champions League, the Liga and the Copa del Rey in the same season, a feat that their arch rivals Barcelona have managed twice, in 2009 and 2015.
The “hat trick” is therefore an idea that continues to excite Carlo Ancelotti and his men, who are still fighting on all three fronts. In the league, Real Madrid are still hot on Barça’s heels: after the victory in the replay against Osasuna, the Blaugrana went to +3 and at the weekend they had no problem in getting the better of their cousins Girona, sweeping them aside 4-1, but the Merengues’ response was not long in coming.
Real Sociedad, need a comeback
Thanks to an increasingly decisive and incisive Mbappé – who scored a brace – the reigning European champions prevailed over Leganés last Saturday, albeit with some difficulty (3-2).
The Italian coach is also trying to pace himself, since his team is about to face a new tour de force. Before facing Arsenal in the Champions League, the Blancos will also be involved in the semi-final second leg of the national cup against Real Sociedad, already beaten 1-0 in the first leg with a goal from the Brazilian jewel Endrick. The Basques are therefore forced to stage a comeback that would be sensational: they need to win by at least two goals in a match that the Txuri-urdin have not won since 2020, in a Copa del Rey match. For Imanol’s men, this competition is perhaps the only way to give meaning to a season that has not been very good so far. On Saturday Real Sociedad won again, this time against Real Valladolid (2-1), but in the league table they are only tenth, far from the positions that count.
Imanol should field the best possible team at the “Bernabeu”, with the exception of the injured Brais Mendez. Ancelotti, on the other hand, has a bench that is anything but long: Courtois, Mendy and Dani Ceballos are also unavailable, in addition to the long-term injured Militao and Carvajal.

The prediction
For Imanol’s Real Sociedad this is probably their last chance to try and win a place in the next European cups. Coming back will be very difficult against a Real Madrid that, although not shining, always manages to get by thanks to the quality of the individuals, but it cannot be ruled out that this time the Basques will at least manage to find a way to score.
