PSV Eindhoven-Sevilla is a match from the second day of the Champions League group stage and is played on Tuesday at 21:00: TV, formations, predictions
Psv Eindhoven’s forgettable debut against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, where Peter Bosz’s men were thrashed 4-0. A match in which the difference between the two teams, already substantial, appeared even clearer.
And yet the Dutch seemed capable of at least limiting the damage on the London night: their season, after all, started as well as it could. They dominate in the Eredivisie and after seven matches they are still on full points, +4 over defending champions Feyenoord and even +16 over the disastrous Ajax, so far the great disappointment of the Dutch top division. The one with the Gunners, to date, is the only negative result recorded by Psv, who in the Champions League preliminaries had also brilliantly beaten the Scottish Rangers, who in turn had eliminated them – again in the play-offs for access to the group stage – in the previous season. In the English capital, moreover, Bosz’s team were for the first time without goals: in the league they have scored 23 in seven matches so far, conceding just two.
Sevilla’s discontinuity
In the Champions League, second place seems within their grasp as they have two far from impossible opponents in the group, Sevilla and Lens.
The Andalusians did not go beyond a disappointing 1-1 draw with the French, who were coming off a difficult moment in Ligue 1. And instead, after almost immediately finding the winning goal through Ocampos, they failed to close it out and ended up suffering the initiative of Lens, who equalised through Fulgini midway through the first half. Things are not going well in La Liga either, where Jose Luis Mendilibar’s men are struggling to find continuity. In their last three outings there have been one draw, one win and one defeat: last Friday Sevilla surrendered narrowly to Barcelona, who prevailed thanks to an own goal from Sergio Ramos. Mendilibar has called up En-Nesyri but the Moroccan striker is not 100 per cent and remains in the running against Rafa Mir. Mauro Junior and Obispo are absent from the Psv squad.
The prediction
Psv Eindhoven will do all they can to erase their disastrous debut against Arsenal by taking advantage of an inconsistent Sevilla. The feeling is that the Andalusian defence will struggle on more than one occasion against the inspired Dutch attack, which should also come unstuck in the Champions League. A victory for the hosts would not be a surprise.
