Nantes vs PSG prediction: hoping to repeat the first leg

by Mike

PSG, crowned French champions with six games to spare, make up for their postponed match against Nantes, which was postponed two weeks ago to allow the Parisians to prepare and focus exclusively on the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Aston Villa, which ended in a painful defeat for Luis Enrique’s side (3-2), having already secured qualification with a 3-1 win in Paris. In the league, however, the undisputed leaders of Ligue 1 continue to rack up victories: last Saturday, despite a major reshuffle, PSG recorded their 24th win in 29 games, beating Le Havre 2-1.

These are crazy numbers for a powerhouse that is not leaving even crumbs at home (82 goals scored and a 22-point lead over second place, with one game in hand) and that at the end of May hopes to lift the French Cup in the final against Reims. Luis Enrique’s dream, however, remains the coveted Champions League: Paris is eagerly awaiting the doubleheader with Arsenal, which will decide who goes to the final in Munich.

Before facing the Gunners in London – the first leg of the semi-final is scheduled in a week’s time – PSG will face Nantes and Nice. The yellow and greens are fighting to stay up: as things stand, they are safe, but their lead over the third-bottom team is only three points. Even a draw with the Parisians would therefore be important to move away from the relegation zone. Nantes have just lost the heated Breton derby against Rennes (2-1), affected by Coco’s sending off midway through the second half. Antoine Kombouare’s team remain unpredictable, however: their last two wins came against Lille and Nice, two clubs fighting for a place in Europe.

The prediction

Luis Enrique will continue with his rotation policy, managing his players’ minutes, but his PSG side do not look like they are in the mood to give anything away. Nantes, however, have often impressed against the big teams this season, as demonstrated by the fact that they held PSG to a draw at the Parc des Princes in the first leg. It is unlikely that the yellow and greens will avoid defeat, but they should at least score a goal.

Probable line-ups for Nantes-PSG

NANTES (4-3-3): Carlgren; Amian, Castelletto, Pallois, Cozza; Augusto, Chirivella, Lepenant; Abline, Mohamed, Simon.
PSG (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Beraldo, Nuno Mendes; Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz, Joao Neves; Doué, Dembélé, Barcola.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 1-2
