Milan-Borussia Dortmund, Champions League: free-to-air TV, formations, predictions

by Michael

Milan-Borussia Dortmund is a match from the fifth day of the Champions League group stage and is played Tuesday at 9 p.m.: TV, lineups, predictions.

Stefano Pioli and his men are again asking for the help of the San Siro to stay in the race for qualification to the Champions League round of 16. The “Meazza” bedlam version three weeks ago gave a big hand to the Rossoneri, who against the Psg of Mbappé and the hated former Donnarumma probably played the best game – so far – of the season, at least on the level of grit, character and personality.

We needed to win and at all costs and Milan managed to do so, avenging the heavy 3-0 defeat in Paris and scoring their first goals in this edition of the cup with the big ears with the usual Leao and Giroud, who broke a five-game fast (considering also the double semifinal with Inter last year). The 2-1 comeback win against the French allows the Diavolo to hang on (at least) to the second-place train, although in the so-called iron group all can still qualify, including Newcastle last in the standings on 4 points, only three less than leading Borussia Dortmund. It will be precisely the yellow-and-whites who will visit Milan. And Theo Hernandez and his teammates obviously cannot make a mistake, since with if they were to lose to the Germans and at the same time Psg were to get the better of Newcastle they would be out of the game. Conversely, Borussia would only need to defeat the San Siro to be certain of going through.

Winning to stay in the race

A.C. Milan comes from the very important success with Fiorentina. With minimal effort Pioli overcame the purple hurdle despite an attack lacking almost all starters

On the night of 15-year-old Camarda’s debut, it was Theo Hernandez who decided a tough match by converting a penalty kick (1-0) late in the first half. Not a brilliant performance – the Viola dominated the game – but a virtue of necessity had to be made to break the winless streak that had been missing in Serie A for a month and a half. Borussia Dortmund over the last weekend got back to winning ways by beating the other Borussia, Monchengladbach, 4-2, erasing the defeat they suffered before the break with Stuttgart. Continuity is not the forte of Edin Terzic’s team, which already seems to be cut out of the title race (it is -10 from leading Bayer Leverkusen). As for the lineups, Pioli rejoins Giroud and Loftus-Cheek from 1′. But besides the disqualified Musah he will also have to do without Leao, Bennacer, Okafor, Kalulu and Sportiello. Smiling, however, is the Dortmund coach, who will again be able to count on former Juventus man Emre Can.

The prediction

A Milan is in no condition to be able to make calculations. A draw would suit Borussia Dortmund and would not allow the Rossoneri to be masters of their own destiny in the match at St. James’ Park on the final day. Therefore, we will see an attacking Milan as against Psg, even if it will have to do without Leao’s lethal unleashes. Avoiding to overbalance on the final result, we believe that the one at San Siro – as opposed to the first leg, which ended 0-0 – could be an eventful match, in which both teams will score. The second half could be more prolific than the first.

The probable formations of Milan-Borussia Dortmund

MILAN (4-3-3): Maignan; Calabria, Thiaw, Tomori, Hernandez; Loftus-Cheek, Krunic, Reijnders; Chukwueze, Giroud, Pulisic.
BORUSSIA DORTMUND (4-3-3): Kobel; Ryerson, Hummels, Schlotterbeck, Bensebaini; Emre Can, Ozcan, Sabitzer; Brandt, Fullkrug, Malen.
