Igor Tudor’s Marseille – which continues to win in Ligue 1 and is only two points behind Psg who are leading the standings – did not get off to a great start in the Champions League. In fact, it has started badly, very badly, collecting two defeats in the first two outings against Tottenham – away, and that might well be the case – and against Eintracht Frankfurt at home, which has definitely put their path in Europe on an uphill slope. In a group decidedly within the French side’s reach, at the moment the troop led by the former Verona coach is forced to chase. And it will definitely not be easy to climb back up the slope, especially as the Portuguese come from two wins in a row that have put the path downhill here.
The victory that came in the final against the team coached by Conte has certainly opened up important scenarios for Sporting CP, who dream of scoring points in France as well in order to certainly remain at the top of the standings of their group. The task, however, does not seem to be one of the easiest: for Marseille it is definitely the last resort, and after the fine victory in the league against Angers last weekend, the hosts are convinced they can get a full result against a team that has started off great but that does not seem to have the characteristics to win them all.
The Prediction
This will be an attacking Marseille, forced to win to keep their hopes of going ahead in Europe open. Tudor’s team has what it takes to win the game and give the fans breathing space to dream of something important. Sporting CP, therefore, could suffer their first defeat in the Champions League in a game where the total number of goals should be between two and four.
