Liverpool-Lille prediction: last defeat dates back to September.

by Martin

Liverpool-Lille is a match on the seventh day of the Champions League and is played Tuesday at 9 p.m.: live TV, likely lineups, prediction.

It is still immaculate Liverpool’s roster in the Champions League. After six days the Reds are on full points (6 wins out of 6), the only team to do so. Yet direct qualification to the round of 16 is not mathematical. It could become so after the challenge with Lille, as Arne Slot’s men need only not lose to the French at Anfield Road to be certain of bypassing the play-offs. Liverpool, in fact, looks down on everyone (18 points, three ahead of second-placed Barcelona).

The numbers only prove the omnipotence of Salah and co. who have so far scored an impressive 13 goals while conceding only one. And the opponents were respectable: among the teams beaten by the Reds were also Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan.

Even in the Premier of rivals capable of countering their dominance, there do not seem to be any. At home, Liverpool has a 6-point lead over Arsenal, which, however, has played one more match. On Saturday, after two consecutive draws, the leaders returned to winning ways, scoring two goals in the dying minutes at home to Brentford.

As for Lille, however, the Dogues will have the opportunity to travel to Anfield with nothing to lose. Together with Brest they are one of the big surprises of this Champions League and with two rounds to go they have 13 points (the same as Inter Milan and more than decidedly better equipped teams such as Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester City). However, it will be difficult to stay in the top eight (they will face Feyenoord in a week’s time), even if Lille’s positive streak has become very long: Bruno Genesio’s men have not lost even since September, and last weekend, thanks to a 2-1 success over Nice, they overtook Monaco in third place. In Liverpool, in any case, the experienced transalpine coach will have to do without several elements, from Bentaleb to Mbappé, via Fernandez and Umtiti. Zhegrova is also in doubt.

The Prediction

Anfield Road should be the “end of the line” of Lille’s long positive streak. It is difficult to assume a positive result of the Dogues at home of Slot’s crush, which is favored even in case of turnover. It cannot be ruled out that the Reds will manage to keep their goal unbroken as well.
