Leipzig-Young Boys, Champions League: tv, likely formations, predictions

by Martin

Lipsia-Young Boys is a match valid for the sixth day of the Champions League group stage and is played on Wednesday at 6:45 pm: tv, predictions.

Both Leipzig and Young Boys have known their European future for two weeks already: there is nothing left to decide in this group, which is dominated by reigning European champions Manchester City, still with full points.

The Germans, twice defeated by Pep Guardiola’s men, have to settle for second place and in the upcoming draw in Nyon they will not be among the top seeds. Instead, the Swiss will relegate to the Europa League and in February will face one of the second-place finishers in the group stage of the minor event in the so-called play-offs for access to the round of 16. The Bern club can still be satisfied with its continental campaign, however, as the goal of entering the knockout stage with two teams of the caliber of City and Leipzig nearby was frankly prohibitive. Raphael Wicky’s team won the long-distance challenge with Red Star, beaten 2-0 in the tie-meet last Nov. 28 thanks to an own goal by Nedeljkovic and Blum’s goal: practice already closed, in fact, in the first half hour of play.

Everything already decided

Thanks to that success, even in the event of a defeat and simultaneous victory of the historic Belgrade club, the Helvetians would maintain third place thanks to the direct clashes.

Victory over Red Star was the driving force for a Young Boys side that is back in the lead of the Swiss Super League and is first with four points ahead of Zurich (which, however, has one game less). The yellow-and-whites are fresh from their overwhelming success in Bern against St. Gallen, overwhelmed 3-0. What has just passed was also a happy weekend for Leipzig, which won the important direct clash with Borussia Dortmund by defeating Signal Iduna Park with a result of 3-2. This enabled Marco Rose’s men to consolidate their fourth place, widening the gap just against the yellow-and-whites and bringing them within -3 of second-placed Bayern Munich.

The Prediction

While there are no realistic goals on either side, there is every reason to expect an entertaining and emotionally charged match. Leipzig favored in a match with at least three goals overall and with both teams scoring.
