Lazio-Celtic is a match from the fifth day of the Champions League group stage and is played Tuesday at 6:45 p.m.: TV, lineups, predictions.
The Champions League to restart after yet another slip of the season and, above all, to dispose of the dross from Salerno. Hoping that a few hours later good news will come from the Rotterdam match between hosts Feyenoord and Atletico Madrid.
Lazio, in fact, could detach a pass for the round of 16 of the continent’s top competition with one round in advance if they manage to beat Celtic, by now with one and a half feet out of the game, and if the Colchoneros of former great Diego Simeone make a splash in the Netherlands. Qualification, then, is not far off for Maurizio Sarri’s team, which, thanks to their success three weeks ago over the Dutch – punished by the rediscovered Immobile (1-0) – remained masters of their own destiny. In Group E, Lazio is second on 7 points, one less than Atletico Madrid and one more than Feyenoord. It is imperative, however, to dispose of the Scottish file: then even a draw in the other challenge would allow the Biancocelesti to travel to Madrid on the final day with the peace of mind of someone who can play for two results out of three.
Lazio, a win to secure the round of 16
But it will need a different performance than last Saturday’s in Salerno, where Lazio cashed in its second defeat in the last three days of the championship.
Another misstep that does not allow the Capitolini to leave the “anonymous” zone of the standings – Immobile and his teammates are only eleventh and that risks to earthquake the environment again: Sarri again spoke of possible resignation at the end of the match. Very delicate match then the one with the Glasgow green-and-whites, already beaten in the first leg (1-2) thanks to Pedro’s goal sealed in full recovery. Celtic is proceeding under full sail in the Premiership – eight points ahead of Rangers – despite last Saturday’s home draw with Motherwell (1-1). In the Champions League, on the other hand, Brendan Rodgers’ team was literally swept away by Atletico (6-0) after claiming the first (and only) point with the Madrilenos in the first leg. Sarri has to deal with heavy absences in defense and at the back we could see the Patric-Gila pair again if Romagnoli does not recover. Luis Alberto returns after being disqualified but Zaccagni is still unavailable.
The prediction
Cup Lazio has so far been different from the league one and it is especially in front of their own public that the biancocelesti have brought home the heaviest points, avoiding defeat to both Atletico Madrid and Feyenoord. Despite their absences, Celtic is little scary, especially when playing away from home. The Scots in four games have cashed in as many as 12 goals, and we would not be surprised if we witnessed a prolific match at the Olimpico as well, also considering the defensive problems of the biancocelesti.
