Galatasaray-Bayern Munich, Champions League: tv, formations, predictions

by Mike

Galatasaray-Bayern Munich is a match from the third day of the Champions League group stage and is played on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m.: TV, lineups, predictions.

At the top of Group A after the first two days of the Champions League group stage is Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich. And so far no surprises. Occupying second place, however, is not Manchester United, which in theory should have walked arm in arm with the Bavarians, but the surprising Galatasaray, which in the last round took, against all odds, the very scalp of the Red Devils at Old Trafford (2-3).

Driven by a sumptuous Mauro Icardi – the former Inter Milan man is scoring on repeat – the Giallorossi have been unbeaten for a good 17 games, practically since the season began (preliminary rounds of Champions included). Very, very few setbacks: the three draws with Zalgiris, Kayserispor and Copenhagen. Yet, despite a super performance, the team led by former midfielder Okan Buruk is not first in Super Lig. Fenerbahçe’s cousins have done even better and unlike the “Gala” they are still on a full scoreline. Icardi and his teammates are reaping the benefits of an ambitious buying campaign and now believe in qualification, which at first seemed unattainable.

Bayern Munich, on the other hand, made it two for two in the cup (4-3 against Manchester United and a risky 0-1 in Denmark with Copenhagen) and can already mortgage both first place and passage to the round if they win in Turkey.

The Bavarians have not lost since August – the only misstep, in fact, was the ugly Super Cup defeat to Leipzig – and last Saturday they had an easy time against Mainz, overwhelmed 3-1 at home, thus keeping pace with Bayer Leverkusen, Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund. Tuchel, compared to fellow Okan Buruk, is dealing with several absences: Guerreiro, Upamecano and Buchmann will be missing, and Goretzka and Gnabry are in doubt.

The Prediction

Two teams that have never faced each other before. They’re in great shape and it shows by the fact that both haven’t lost in months. Bayern Munich is revving up its engine and obviously starts favored but we believe it will be no picnic at all to return from Istanbul with the three points. That’s right, because Galatasaray will also “dare” against the top-ranked Bavarians: at least three goals overall are expected.

The likely lineups of Galatasaray-Bayern Munich

  • GALATASARAY (4-2-3-1): Muslera; Boey, Sanchez, Bardacki, Angelino; Ayhan, Torreira; Tete, Akturkoglu, Zaha; Icardi.
  • BAYERN MONACO (4-2-3-1): Ulreich; Sarr, Kim, de Ligt, Davies; Kimmich, Laimer; Coman, Musiala, Sané; Kane.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 2-3
