Chelsea v Salzburg, Champions League: TV, line-ups, predictions

by Mike

CHELSEA – SALISBURG | Wednesday 9pm

Twenty-three million euros for the new coach. Chelsea literally spared no expense after ousting Tuchel: the German coach paid dearly for last week’s defeat against Dinamo Zagreb in his Champions League debut and was sacked. The Blues have been joined by former Brighton coach Potter, who did not make his debut last weekend due to the postponement of the Premier League fixture and will do so against Salzburg on Wednesday evening. There was only one result available after the defeat in Croatia: victory. Of huge tactical upheavals there should not be any, at least as far as these first outings are concerned: there has not even been time for serious work. But a small imprint, the new coach, might well give it.

At Stamford Bridge, however, arrives a team that stopped Milan in the first day: Salzburg, moreover, even risked to win this match, giving the idea that they could play for the qualification. The challenge against Chelsea is not decisive, that much is clear, and the fact of the change in the bench could help the guests to attempt the big blow. Or at least not come out of the London trip defeated. Obviously it’s very difficult.

The Prediction

New coach Potter’s Chelsea need only victory. Not a difficult Champions League debut for the Blues’ coach, as honestly it could have been worse. In short, start with a win and three points for Chelsea.

The Chelsea-Salzburg likely line-up

  • CHELSEA (3-4-3): Kepa; Azplicueta, Koulibaly, Fofana; James, Mount, Kovacic, Chilwell; Havertz, Aubameyang, Sterling.
  • SALISBURG (4-3-1-2): Kohn; Dedic, Solet, Pavlovic, Ulmer; Capaldo, Seiwald, Kjaergaard; Kameri; Fernando, Okafor.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 3-1
