Celta Vigo-Las Palmas prediction: the unbeaten streak gets longer

by Sabrina

The break has come at perhaps the worst possible moment for Celta Vigo who, as the end of the season fast approaches, continue to breathe the scent of Europe. The team, coached by Claudio Giraldez, started out with the aim of securing their place in the league as soon as possible, but at the end of March they find themselves in eighth place, with 39 points and – at the time of writing – just one point away from seventh place which, thanks to the current position of La Liga in the UEFA ranking, could mean either a place in the Europa League or the Conference League.

The Galicians were in great shape at the break due to the national team commitments: two consecutive victories against Leganés and Real Valladolid and an unbeaten run that has been going on since the beginning of February. Celta also avoided defeat against Atletico Madrid (1-1 at the Metropolitano) and beat Betis 3-2 at Balaidos.

Iago Aspas and his teammates recently broke through the “wall” of 40 goals – they scored 41 to be exact – but at the same time they concede a lot: among the top 10 in today’s standings, no one has conceded more goals (41). To be precise, they have conceded only six fewer goals than their next opponents, Las Palmas, who are struggling to avoid relegation. The Canary Island club is only two points away from safety: however, staying up will be extremely difficult if Diego Martinez’s men continue to fail to take all three points. The yellow and blues haven’t won since December, including the Copa del Rey, and before the break they hadn’t gone beyond a home draw with Alavés (2-2). Their last away win, then, dates back to November, when they surprisingly managed to beat Barcelona away: a very long time ago.

The prediction

You can’t go against Celta, who in our opinion remain favorites despite the absence of Mingueza through suspension. Also keep an eye on Las Palmas’ hunger for points, no longer in a position to play it safe and forced to adopt an even more unscrupulous attitude. In short, the conditions seem to be right for an eventful match, with more than 2 goals overall and at least one for each team.

The probable line-ups for Celta Vigo-Las Palmas

CELTA VIGO (3-4-3): Guaita; Javi Rodriguez, Starfelt, Marcos Alonso; Carreira, Beltran, Sotelo, Hugo Alvarez; Iago Aspas, Borja Iglesias, Alfon Gonzalez.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 2-1
