Arsenal-Fulham prediction: it hasn’t happened for exactly two years

by Mark

Before the break Arsenal had managed to reduce the huge gap between them and Liverpool at the top of the table by beating Chelsea 1-0 in the derby and moving to -12 from the Reds, who were simultaneously defeated in the League Cup final by Newcastle. With nine games still to play, including the direct clash with Salah and his teammates, a comeback by the Gunners seems objectively improbable, although Arne Slot’s team has lost some of its spark in recent times, as demonstrated by their elimination from the Champions League by PSG.

The objective of Mikel Arteta’s men is therefore to further consolidate their second place and make sure they stay out of the fight for a place in the top four (or five), which is becoming increasingly fierce. Then, of course, there’s the highly anticipated double header in the Champions League with Real Madrid, which will inevitably take a lot of energy away from Arsenal. To be ready for the match, the Gunners will try to win the next matches against Fulham and Everton: two victories would be important to increase their self-esteem in view of the first leg against the Blancos, scheduled for April 8th.

Fulham, on the other hand, dream of taking the scalps of another North London club after beating Tottenham 2-0 two weeks ago. This was a significant success, as it allowed the Cottagers to move up to eighth place and get back in the running for a place in Europe. Even Fulham, in light of a very short league table, can aspire to a goal that seemed out of reach at the beginning of the season.

After all, the league championship is the only way left to get back into the European cup, given that on Saturday Marco Silva’s men were defeated in the FA Cup quarterfinals by Crystal Palace (0-3).

The prediction

Fulham are becoming a bit of a bugbear for the Gunners, who haven’t beaten their neighbors in exactly two years (March 2023). In the last three previous matches, there have been two draws and one win for the Cottagers. The common denominator in these matches is goals, as both teams have always scored at least one goal each. In our opinion, there should be no shortage of goals at the Emirates Stadium either, with Fulham likely to give Arteta’s team a hard time, as they have been too inconsistent in recent league matches.

The probable Arsenal-Fulham line-ups

ARSENAL (4-3-3): Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly; Odegaard, Partey, Rice; Nwaneri, Merino, Trossard.
FULHAM (4-2-3-1): Leno; Castagne, Andersen, Bassey, Robinson; Berge, Lukic; Iwobi, Pereira, Willian; Raul Jimenez.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 2-1
