Wolverhampton-Brentford is a match valid for the third round of the FA Cup and is played Tuesday at 8:30pm: lineups, predictions, TV and streaming.
Eleven days ago Wolverhampton and Brentford drew 1-1 at the Community Stadium, home of the Bees. Now to find out who will be to enter the fourth round will need the infamous replay, as per FA Cup regulations in case of a draw in the first match.
The theater of the challenge, this time, will be the Molineux, the stadium of the Black and Gold. It will be the third confrontation in just under a month for Gary O’Neil’s men and Thomas Frank’s men, who had already faced each other on Boxing Day, a match dominated far and wide by the Wolves (1-4). In the FA Cup, on the other hand, we witnessed a much more balanced match, although conditioned by the expulsion of Joao Gomes in the ninth minute of the first half, which left Wolverhampton with ten men. Despite the numerical superiority, Brentford was unable to manage the lead and in the second half was caught up by a goal from Doyle, throwing away a golden opportunity. It was a game that explains the Bees’ complicated moment, who have almost exclusively collected defeats since December, with the exception of a win with newly promoted Luton Town.
Brentford has not won since November
Brentford has yet to play any league games in 2024, and there is still to make up the one with Manchester City, which was postponed due to the reigning English and European champions’ World Club Championship commitments.
The standings, however, have become a source of concern for Frank and his men, at +3 on third-last Luton. By contrast, they have nine more points from Wolverhampton, which is experiencing a diametrically opposite moment to that of the Londoners. Prior to the FA Cup match, O’Neil’s men had scored three consecutive Premier League victories (Chelsea, Brentford and Everton), bringing them significantly closer to the left side of the table.
The prediction
Right now Brentford seems to be at least one step below Wolves and may prioritize the delicate league challenge with Nottingham Forest, scheduled in four days. Wolverhampton favored-despite a few too many absences-in a match of less than four goals total.
