West Ham-Leicester prediction: never won two in a row.

by Michael

Last Saturday West Ham had a burst of pride, beating none other than the Emirates Stadium and inflicting their first home defeat on their Arsenal cousins (0-1), who until the derby with the Hammers were still undefeated in front of their own public in the Premier League. For Graham Potter and his men it was their first success after four games in which they had barely picked up a point.

Although facilitated by numerical superiority for about a half – expelled Lewis-Skelly early in the second half – West Ham offered one of their best performances of the season, holding their own against the league’s second force. The Hammers defended in an orderly fashion after unlocking the game through Bowen but never gave up creating play.

To try and climb a ranking that currently sees Soucek and his teammates in 16th place – the relegation zone is a long way off in any case, with the third-last one 13 points away – more continuity is now needed. It would represent a worrying step backward not to beat a team in big trouble like Leicester, which is probably destined to return immediately to the Championship along with the other two newly promoted teams, Ipswich Town and Southampton. Ruud van Nistelrooy has failed to turn the Foxes’ fortunes around and is now even in danger of being exonerated: Leicester has conceded a whopping 10 goals in its last three games (Everton, Arsenal and Brentford) without scoring a single one. Only tail-end Southampton (61) has conceded more goals than the team led by the Dutch coach (59).

The Prediction

Despite a few major absences (Paquetà, Fullkrug, Antonio and Summerville will be missing from the roll call) the albeit seesaw West Ham should get the better of a Leicester side that gives the feeling of trickling down. Given the inconsistency from the point of view of scoring by the Foxes in the last three games, we do not feel like ruling out a clean sheet by the Hammers, who in case of victory would bring home two wins in a row for the first time this season.

The probable lineups of West Ham-Leicester

WEST HAM (4-3-3): Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Scarles; Soucek, Ward-Prowse, Alvarez; Bowen, Ferguson, Kudus.
LEICESTER (4-2-3-1): Hermansen; Coulibaly, Faes, Okoli, Kristiansen; Ndidi, Soumaré; Buonanotte, El Khannouss, Mavididi; Vardy.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 2-0
