Between the two newly-promoted teams, Werder Bremen is the one that has done significantly better in this Bundesliga. Compared to Schalke 04, the green-and-whites are never really involved in the fight for relegation and, with a very decent haul of 31 points from 25 matches, they can sleep soundly. The risk, indeed, is that between now and the end of the tournament Fullkrug and his teammates might suffer from a lack of major stimuli.
The European zone, in fact, appears inaccessible at the moment. They will be able to start thinking about it from next year onwards, although much will depend on the permanence – unlikely, according to the latest market rumours – of their slinger, the league’s top scorer with 15 goals to his credit. A late bloomer in terms of age, Fullkrug could be tempted by a more ambitious and prestigious club, especially now that he has also become a regular starter for the German national team. Ole Werner’s men, meanwhile, restarted from the sensational 2-2 draw at home to Borussia Monchengladbach, which allowed Werder Bremen to turn over a new leaf after two defeats in a row against Augsburg and Bayer Leverkusen. It was the first draw of 2023, considering that from January onwards the green-and-whites had no half-measures. The spectacle, when they are on the pitch, is almost always assured: only in Bayern Munich matches have more goals been scored.
Hoffenheim are fourth to last
Hoffenheim, the next opponent at the Weserstadion, are nine points behind. The Sinsheim club, unlike Werder, is in trouble. In the sense that the relegation risk appears more concrete than ever with nine days to go.

A match that is definitely more valuable for Hoffenheim, who are still hungry for salvation points after coming unstuck in their direct clash with Hertha. The guests will therefore have more motivation and it would be no surprise if they manage to avoid defeat. When Werder are involved, the total goals are never few: both should score on at least one occasion.
