Bayern Munich is back at the top of the Bundesliga standings after taking advantage a week ago of Borussia Dortmund’s resounding misstep in the Ruhr derby with Bochum, which surprisingly stopped the yellow-and-whites, allowing the Bavarian counter-breakthrough. Thomas Tuchel’s team thus became masters of their own destiny once again thanks to a 2-0 success over tail-end Hertha Berlin.
The road to an 11th consecutive triumph is strewn with obstacles, however. Which this lackadaisical Bayern, struggling with numerous problems, cannot afford to underestimate if it wants to retain the scepter of German champion, which it has owned for more than a decade now. Werder Bremen, Schalke 04, Leipzig and Cologne are the four games to be won in order to be certain of finishing ahead for the umpteenth time. Hoping, at the same time, that Edin Terzic’s yellow-and-whites, who have just one point less, fail to win them all, perhaps allowing Bayern to celebrate early. Tuchel’s men, however, look nothing like the brilliant and especially dominant team we have known in recent years. And this was confirmed by the difficulties they had last Sunday to unlock the game against the last in the standings.
Werder Bremen is not yet safe
Bearing the best away record in the German top league, the Bavarians take the field 24 hours earlier than Borussia Dortmund, who are engaged against Wolfsburg.

Bayern Munich is on the scene at home to Werder Bremen, which was taken to the wire (6-1) in the first leg in Bavaria. Ole Werner’s green-and-whites still need to win a few points – they are +7 up on third-last-place Stuttgart – to be able to celebrate mathematical salvation: it could have come in last Saturday’s match with Schalke 04, but the defeat in Gelsenkirchen (2-1) does not allow Werder to sleep soundly.
