Union Berlin-Bayern Munich, Bundesliga: odds, predictions

by Martin

Union Berlin-Bayern Munich is a Bundesliga Week 5 match played on Saturday at 15:30: line-ups, predictions, TV and streaming.

The German capital is home to the best the Bundesliga has to offer at the moment. After all, one only has to look at the standings of the German top league after four days to understand why this bold statement is made. On the one hand, we have Bayern Munich, the team to beat for the last ten years and which needs no introduction. On the other, however, we have the surprise Union Berlin, a club that has never ceased to amaze since its return to the ‘bigs’ three years ago. The Eisernen project, despite having few resources compared to other clubs, seems to grow season after season. Urs Fischer’s team is about to make its Europa League debut after playing in the conference last year and will make its debut in the group stage next week against Belgium’s Union Saint-Gilloise.

But it is in the league that Union are astounding everyone. It is on top of the league table arm in arm with Julian Nagelsmann’s multiple champions on 10 points. Momentary supremacy sealed by the very wide 6-1 victory last Saturday at home to the newly promoted Schalke 04. The attack, after the Gelsenkirchen goleada, is second only to that of Bayern, but it is the defence that is the pride of Khedira and his team-mates: only three goals conceded, one less than their next opponents. However, they have just suffered their first slip-up, being held to a 1-1 draw by ‘black beast’ Borussia Monchengladbach, who came away unscathed from the Allianz thanks to Sommer’s impressive saves.

The Prediction

Bayern Munich were faced with a sensational Sommer, otherwise they would have had no problem taking home their fourth win in a row and remaining on full points. Union Berlin at the same time are proving to be as competitive a team as they have been in recent years, but in the summit clash with the Bavarians the first defeat should come for Fischer’s men. It is likely that the total number of goals will be at least three, clashing two teams that have so far very often found the way of the goal.

Union Berlin-Bayern Munich’s likely line-up

  • UNION BERLIN (3-5-2): Rönnow; Doekhi, Knoche, Jaeckel; Trimmel, Thorsby, Khedira, Haberer, Ryerson; Becker, Jordan.
  • BAYERN MONACO (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Pavard, de Ligt, Hernandez, Davies; Kimmich, Sabitzer; Coman, Müller, Sané; Mané.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 1-3
