Serie B Predictions March 30: keep an eye on the “X” in these matches

by Thorsten

In a Serie B in which, for the first time in several seasons, the playoffs seem to be at serious risk – if at the end of the regular season the gap in the standings between third and fourth is greater than 14 points, the top three will be promoted directly, without playing the play-offs – there are those desperately trying to get back into the top eight at least and fight for their chances in the postseason.

Palermo, for example, would be out today. An exclusion that would be sensational, given the ambitions of the Rosanero since they were bought two years ago by the same owners as Manchester City. Despite some high-profile signings – in January they brought in the last top scorer in the second division, the Finnish Pohjanpalo, from Venezia – Alessio Dionisi’s team is unable to get into gear.

With back-to-back victories against Cosenza and Brescia, Palermo had given the impression that they had turned a corner, but in the last two matches they disappointed again, picking up only one point between Sampdoria and Cremonese (incredible comeback in the match against the Grigiorossi, who managed to turn everything around in the last 20 minutes and win 3-2 at the “Barbera”). Dionisi, confirmed despite the Rosanero slipping to ninth place, will be playing hard in the match against Salernitana at the Arechi stadium. Salernitana are another disappointment, as proven by their current position of second to last in the league table: however, it’s still possible for them to avoid relegation and they’ve shown that they’re more alive than ever thanks to the 4 points obtained between Modena (1-0) and Bari (0-0). Salvation will necessarily depend on home games, where Salernitana have won most of their points (22 out of 30). We therefore imagine a more closely fought game than expected: for a Palermo team in such difficulty, it won’t be easy to take all the points.

The predictions for the other matches

Bari are also hunting for important points in view of the playoffs, currently in eighth place and one point ahead of the Sicilians. In 2025, the “Galletti” (the name given to the fans of the team) have only lost to Juve Stabia but they have a dangerous “drawing record”: the red and whites have shared the points on 16 occasions and are the team that has collected the most together with Catanzaro.

Carrara could reach their fourth consecutive draw after those against Sampdoria, Sassuolo and Salernitana against an opponent who is trying to stay up at home. Carrarese, temporarily out of the relegation zone – but still only one point ahead of the fifth from bottom – is seventh for home performance. The most interesting match, however, will be played at the “Manuzzi” stadium, where Cesena and Juve Stabia, seventh and sixth in the standings respectively, will do battle. Both have exceeded expectations, considering that we are talking about two newly promoted teams: the playoffs would be the right reward for both the Romagna and Campania teams. Cesena are unbeaten at home since December and will most likely avoid defeat, but after two clean sheets at home in a row, this time they might concede at least one goal.
