Real Madrid-Atletico Madrid, Spanish Super Cup: streaming, lineups, predictions

by Mike

Real Madrid-Atletico Madrid is a semifinal of the 2024 Spanish Super Cup and is played Wednesday at 8 p.m.: TV, streaming, predictions and lineups.

Spain has led the way: from this year our Supercoppa Italiana will also involve four teams, with the winners of the two semifinals then clashing in the final in a sort of Final Four. In the ’24 edition of the Super Cup of Spain, hosted again by Saudi Arabia, there are Real Madrid, present as winners of the King’s Cup, Barcelona champions of the last La Liga, Osasuna finalists of the national cup, and finally Atletico Madrid, third-place finishers in the Spanish top league.

We start immediately with a bang and that is with the Madrid derby between Real and Atletico: the winner of this semifinal will then face one between Barcelona and Osasuna. A match, the one with the Colchoneros, that Carlo Ancelotti will do well to particularly fear. And the reason is very simple, since the hated cousins so far this season have been the only ones to beat the Blancos. In fact, in the league, last Sept. 24, it ended 3-1 for the team of “Cholo” Simeone, who sent both of his strikers, Griezmann and the former Morata (double), into the net. Nothing more than an accident of the road for a Real Madrid that has not lost since that match, both in La Liga and in the various cups.

Ancelotti wants a rematch

The Merengues finished the first leg ahead of everyone, or rather they occupy the top of the standings along with the surprising Girona, a full seven points ahead of Barcelona in third place.

After taming Mallorca – beaten 1-0 thanks to a goal by defender Rudiger – in their first outing of 2024, Ancelotti’s men made it through the round of the King’s Cup without a problem, eliminating lowly Arandina without, however, managing to keep their goal unbeaten (1-3). With the same result, Atletico Madrid won over Lugo, partly forgetting the dreadful defeat of a few days earlier against Girona, which came out on top 4-3 at the end of a thrilling match full of twists and turns. Ancelotti had to leave several players in Madrid, including Courtois, Alaba and Militao, but Lucas Vazquez and Mendy will not be available for the derby either. For goal Lunin is expected to win the ballot with Kepa. The only absentees among the Colchoneros, however, are Lemar and Barrios.

The prediction

The challenges with Atletico’s cousins always hide pitfalls for Real Madrid, which will rely on its best men to overcome the wall that Simeone’s team will erect. The Colchoneros, however, unlike a few years ago, are more proactive, which is why we are likely to see a prolific match, with at least one goal on each side. Real remains slightly favored in any case.

The probable lineups of Real Madrid-Atletico Madrid

REAL MADRID (4-3-1-2): Lunin; Carvajal, Rudiger, Nacho Fernandez, Fran García; Kroos, Valverde, Modric; Bellingham; Rodrygo, Vinicius Jr.
ATLETICO MADRID (5-3-2): Oblak; Gimenez, Witsel, Hermoso; Molina, Llorente, Koke, De Paul, S. Lino; Griezmann, Morata.
