Mainz-Bayern Munich, Bundesliga: likely lineups, predictions.

by Sabrina

Mainz-Bayern Munich is a match on the 29th day of the Bundesliga and is played Saturday at 3:30 pm: TV, lineups, predictions.

In the week Bayern Munich said goodbye to the Champions League by not going beyond a draw with Manchester City in the return leg at the Allianz Arena. The 1-1 draw was obviously not enough to overturn the very heavy 3-0 first leg, which had already reduced the German multiple champions’ hopes of advancing to the semifinals to a flicker.

Now all that remains is to reach the minimum goal of the season, the Bundesliga, where Muller and his teammates remain the favorites to win the title, even their 11th consecutive one. Thomas Tuchel, who arrived not even a month ago after Julian Nagelsmann’s surprise exoneration, has so far won only two matches: the Klassiker with Borussia Dortmund, which was crucial to take back the top spot, and the next match with Freiburg. On the other hand, the former Psg and Chelsea coach has had to deal with two eliminations: that with City in the Champions League and with Freiburg in the German Cup. The last performance offered in the Bundesliga was also uninspiring, with Hoffenheim, a team struggling to avoid relegation, managing to return with a point in their pocket from the Allianz Arena (1-1). Fortunately for Tuchel and his men, Borussia Dortmund was simultaneously stopped by Stuttgart and remained -2 behind Bayern Munich.

This is the third clash of the season

The defense of first place, in short, is not a given. Especially in this round, in which the Bavarians are on stage on a difficult field, that of Mainz.

This one at the MEWA Arena will certainly be a special match for Tuchel, who led the red and white for five years, from 2009 and 2014, before going on to coach Borussia Dortmund. His Bayern Munich side in any case will have to pay close attention to a team that has scored fewer points in the return leg than only the first two and has returned to European hopes after a largely anonymous first half of the season. Mainz coach B Svensson, meanwhile, dreams of avenging the two season-long defeats, both very heavy (cup and league), in which his team conceded as many as 10 goals.

The Prediction

In the previous two season matches there was no history but in the last two months things have changed. Mainz has only lost once since the 4-0 loss it suffered in the German Cup against Bayern last February and could give a hard time to a team that, beyond the technical leadership, is no longer the steamroller we knew. We expect at least one goal on each side in this challenge that could be more balanced than expected.
