Leipzig-Bayern Munich, Bundesliga: odds, predictions

by Mike

Leipzig-Bayern Munich is a match on the sixth day of the Bundesliga and is played on Saturday at 18:30: TV, line-ups, predictions

For the past few months Leipzig have discovered that Bayern Munich are not so unbeatable. Indeed, the Roten Bullen have won the last two direct clashes – both at the Allianz Arena – against the multiple German champions, breaking a sort of ‘curse’ that had lasted since 2018. Last May, a 1-3 defeat on the penultimate day of the season could have cost the Bavarians dearly.

Marco Rose’s side served up the title on a silver platter to Borussia Dortmund, who by virtue of that slip-up by Thomas Tuchel’s men became masters of their own destiny once again in the decisive last round. Then the yellow-and-whites, sportingly speaking, ‘committed suicide’ by handing the Schale back to the 11-time defending champions. Not content with that, Leipzig played another nasty trick on Muller and his team-mates: the memory of the 0-3 defeat on 12 August in the German Super Cup awarding match, when a hat-trick by an unstoppable Dani Olmo prevented Bayern Munich from lifting the first trophy of the season, is still quite fresh. Since that drubbing, the Bavarians have not only bounced back but have won virtually all of them, with the exception of the draw with Bayer Leverkusen, with whom they currently share first place.

Last Saturday we saw the Bayern Munich of great occasions again, smashing seven goals against the unfortunate Bochum, complete with a hat-trick from former Tottenham man Kane (already seven goals for him).

Leipzig are also doing very well, having only one point less than the Bayern-Bayer pair. Almost only successes for the Roten Bullen, including one in the Champions League against the Swiss Young Boys. The only ‘blemish’ is the Bundesliga debut defeat against Leverkusen (3-2). Both Leipzig and Bayern Munich were involved in the German Cup this week, in which they had to ‘make up’ for their first-round match: Bayern overwhelmed Munster 4-0, while Leipzig had a hard time beating the German cadet league club Wehen.

The prediction

Bayern may not be what they were in August, but Leipzig, even in successive matches, have shown themselves to be a very good team, who could also have their say in the title fight this year. In short, a spectacular match looms, in which both sides should score this time. Bayern Munich are likely to avoid defeat.
