Fulham-Crystal Palace prediction: they already did it a month ago

by Lea

Just as happened in the League Cup, won two weeks ago by Newcastle – the Magpies hadn’t won a title in over half a century – also in the FA Cup, the most prestigious national cup, this year a so-called outsider could triumph, that is, not one of the usual suspects. The only big team still in the running when we reached the quarter finals is Manchester City, playing the fearsome Bournemouth.

But one of the most interesting matches is the London derby between Fulham and Crystal Palace, two clubs that have never won anything really important in the course of their history. It’s a tempting opportunity, therefore, for both the Cottagers and the Eagles, given that the match scheduled at Craven Cottage is a semi-final qualifier.

For Fulham, who won on penalties against Manchester United in the last round of the cup, winning the FA Cup would be another way to return to playing in Europe after many years: Marco Silva’s men could actually qualify through the league, considering that thanks to their win over Tottenham, beaten 2-0 on the last day before the break, they have climbed to eighth place, just three points behind fifth place which will most likely mean Champions League football at the end of the season. Crystal Palace, on the other hand, are staying in their “comfort zone”, twelfth in the standings and just a step away from the fateful threshold of 40 points.

Eagles fresh from four wins in a row

This means that the team led by Austrian Oliver Glasner has been safe for some time now: to try and aim for something more important, however, they will need to make a greater effort.

In any case, Palace seem to have made significant progress recently. This is demonstrated by their 3 consecutive victories in the Premier League – 4 if we also take into account the 3-1 win at Millwall in the FA Cup – including the one against Fulham on February 22nd, which took place at Craven Cottage (0-2, goals by Munoz and an own goal by Andersen). On that occasion, Glasner and his men avenged the defeat suffered against the Cottagers in November, when they lost by the same score at Selhurst Park.

The prediction

The Palace are particularly impressive away from home, where they have won their last five matches in various competitions. The fruits of Glasner’s labor are starting to be seen: his team defend very well but don’t give up on attacking (in their last five matches they have scored 10 goals and conceded only two). The fact that the Eagles recently won at Craven Cottage makes this match even more unpredictable, and it could turn the season for both teams around. This time we expect at least one goal each and we can’t rule out the possibility of overtime.

FULHAM (4-2-3-1): Leno; Castagne, Andersen, Bassey, Robinson; Pereira, Berge; Iwobi, Smith Rowe, Willian; Muniz.
CRYSTAL PALACE (3-4-3): Henderson; Richards, Lacroix, Guéhi; Munoz, Wharton, Schlupp, Mitchell; Sarr, Mateta, Eze.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 1-1
