Sinner is a Gucci ambassador, but after breaking the taboo of total white at Wimbledon, he is preparing for betrayal.
The truth is, no one expected that he could be the one to christen the marriage of tennis and fashion. He who spends so much time on the court that he wears, for most of his days, cap, T-shirt, shorts and sneakers. He, so simple and genuine, who seems light years away from the glam and glossy atmosphere of the catwalks.
That’s why he had left everyone speechless when, last summer, on the occasion of his grand debut at Wimbledon, he had walked through the entrance of the All England Club with that sparkling duffel bag under his arm. An entirely custom-made model, signed Gucci, tailored to the needs of the rising star of world tennis, namely Jannik Sinner. And it was the first time, as if that were not enough, that someone showed up at the London Slam with an accessory that did not comply with the historic total white dress code always imposed on those participating in the tournament.
He had been allowed to do so, of course, which had resulted in a momentous turning point. And what Sinner did, moreover, had obvious consequences, since the now upcoming edition of the Australian Open will also feature, in its own way, a little “fashion” foray.
Sinner, after Gucci there is Louis Vuitton: a daydream
The famous maison Louis Vuitton has created two custom-made trunks that will hold, until the end of the Slam, the two trophies up for grabs in Melbourne. They were made by artisans at workshops in Asnières, on the outskirts of Paris, and they faithfully trace the style that has always distinguished the famous luxury brand whose testimonial is Carlos Alcaraz.
The two trunks wink at those in use in the 1860s and feature, on the underside of the lid, the Australian Open logo. They have also been declined in the colors proper to the palette of the Slam, whose courts are famously blue concrete. Louis Vuitton’s style will make even more glittering, in short, the awards ceremony of the highly anticipated event that will kick off on Jan. 14 in the land of kangaroos.
With good grace to Sinner, who is an ambassador of Gucci and who will have to put aside, at least this time, “affiliations.” And we are sure the Italian fashion house would also forgive him the betrayal, should it happen. Because it would mean that Sinner has won the Slam, and at that point it would matter little which brand is stamped on the surface of the trunk that holds the trophy: the dream would have become a reality.
