Fiorentina-Como prediction: heavy absence but timely goals

by Lea

Florentin failed, Fiorentina, a second feat in the space of a few days against Inter. Last Monday, at the San Siro, the Nerazzurri took revenge for the heavy defeat suffered in Florence in the previous week, giving Raffaele Palladino’s team its first disappointment after three wins in a row (Lazio, Genoa and Inter).

The too-conservative attitude adopted by the Viola this time did not pay off: in a match conditioned by episodes – really clamorous the oversight on the corner kick from which the first goal of the Italian champions later resulted – the desire for revenge by Simone Inzaghi’s men prevailed, eventually winning 2-1.

Fiorentina, after finding the equalizer thanks to a penalty kick – which was also much debated – waited until they were trailing again to play more offensive and purposeful soccer, with Palladino trying to raise the technical level by fielding almost all new signings, including Zaniolo and Fagioli. It was not enough, however, to snatch at least a draw, which would have allowed the lily-livered team to join Juventus on 43 points and return to fifth. To stay in the fight for fourth place, however, they need to get right back on track, but taming Cesc Fabregas’ Como, ambitious both on and off the field, will not be easy. In fact, the Larians also want to turn over a new leaf after the three consecutive defeats against Atalanta, Bologna and Juventus: the Spanish coach continues to receive compliments for what his team is showing in terms of play, but now a good dose of cynicism is urgently needed to move away from the relegation zone (the third-last one is -2) and score the points that are missing to quickly reach salvation.

Fiorentina-Como: the latest lineup news

Fiorentina will be missing Kean, who is disqualified: he will most likely be replaced by Zaniolo, who has also played first forward in the past. Behind the former Roma and Atalanta man should act Beltran and Gudmundsson, with Folorunsho going to play the role of halfback in a midfield also composed of Mandragora and Fagioli. At the back, Comuzzo will be seen again after being disqualified.

Fabregas will have to do without the injured Sergi Robeto, Azon, Gabrielloni, Vojvoda and van der Brempt. Also absent is outfielder Fadera, who must serve two rounds of disqualification. The only ballot is in defense between Goldaniga and Kempf. Up front Cutrone supported by Diao, Nico Paz and Strefezza.

The Prediction

Como will probably take the initiative in Florence as well, trying to maintain control of the game and defend through possession. We expect, then, a more wait-and-see Viola but always chameleon-like and ready to make themselves dangerous in transition, with Palladino having to do without gunner Kean but relying on his most talented players. The goals, in short, should not be lacking.

The probable formations of Fiorentina-Como

FIORENTINA (4-3-2-1): De Gea; Dodò, Comuzzo, Ranieri, Gosens; Fagioli, Mandragora, Folorunsho; Beltran, Gudmundsson; Zaniolo.
COMO (4-2-3-1): Butez; Smolcic, Goldaniga, Dossena, Valle; Perrone, Da Cunha; Diao, Nico Paz, Strefezza; Cutrone.
