Eintracht Frankfurt-Borussia Monchengladbach is a Bundesliga Week 16 match and is played Wednesday at 8:30pm: TV, predictions.
A lower-key first leg is coming to an end for both Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Monchengladbach, two teams that currently have to be content with floating in mid-table.
Dino Toppmoller’s Rossoneri are eighth, but a long way from fourth place and the Champions League zone. The league is still long, but the doubts at the beginning of the season about the competitiveness of Eintracht’s roster after the many goodbyes were well-founded. Interesting players have arrived but it is not easy to replace the likes of Kolo Muani, one of many who left Frankfurt in the summer. The result is a year so far with few flashes and much discontinuity. Eintracht failed to finish first even in the Conference League round and will now be forced to play in the play-offs for access to the round of 16 against Belgium’s Union Saint-Gilloise. One of the few joys was the 5-1 victory over Bayern Munich. It was a stern lesson given to the defending champions, but one that Gotze and his teammates did not follow up on, as they lost in the next two matches first to Aberdeen in the Europa League and then to Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
Eintracht too patchy
There was no match on Sunday at home to Alonso’s Aspirins, who were already leading by three goals (3-0) after the first 60 minutes, bringing Toppmoller’s men back down to earth.
Discontinuity is also a problem for Borussia Monchengladbach, which is four points behind Eintracht in the standings. The Fohlen are going strong almost exclusively in front of their own public, although in the last league round they were caught up in the final by Werder Bremen, overturned initially by a brace from the talented Reitz (2-2). Gerardo Seoane, Borussia’s coach, consoles himself with the excellent path in the German Cup, where his team reached the quarterfinals: in February, Saarbrucken awaits them.
The prediction
Two discontinuous and unpredictable teams. Eintracht Frankfurt, however, will be able to make the home factor count:. Borussia Monchengladbach, in fact, away from home has barely won a game so far and, more importantly, has conceded an impressive 21 goals. Toppmoller’s men should therefore avoid defeat in a match with at least one goal on each side.
